I love music. And I thank musicians for their work. As much as I can and whenever I can. I’m supporting acts playing music I like. I do so to get more of their music. I buy their albums, I buy the CD, i buy vinyl if available, I buy special editions or collectors boxes most of the time. I buy albums twice or more, depending on editions. I travel a lot to see bands live, I buy their merchandise, I have a complete dresser just for band and tour shirts. I pay musicians.

Everyone who knows me just a bit, must get that I respect musicians, performing artists, artists in general. I love to discuss a show or album after a gig. And I blog about gigs I went to. And I take pictures. Sometimes I take videos and upload them to youtube, just to share the great atmosphere and the beauty of a live show, to give others the feeling of how a show of an artist might be. I do so to support bands giving me a good time at a club or festival. And I know, that it might infringe their copyright. I meet bands and some of them used my videos on their websites or took my footage to get a video online in their own channel.

Today I got a take down notice from youtube for a video I uploaded. The label of German band ASP saw copyright infringement for one of the bands songs played live at Wacken 2009. The notice includes a warning that my account will be deleted if there is any other video containing material I’m not the 100% copyright holder or don’t have permission to upload it to the public. And I’m warned to not upload any material with that kind of content. Not to mention legal consequences.

Since there are just videos taken at concerts, every single video will cause the deletion of my account. And every future clip will as well. So I changed access of all the video to private. None of the videos will be available without permission of either the band or the label, whoever is responsible for copyright stuff. I won’t ask every artist seperate. I’ll list all artists I have videos on my youtube channel. And I’m available for them via email. I’m curious what video might be available shortly again.

One last statement to the band taking down the video: I will not link to any of their sites, profiles or events anymore. And I deleted the links to them in older posts. I’m trying to avoid giving them any further support. I can deside who to support and who to pay.

To all the others: thanks for the good times we had at your shows.

Dank u wel.
